All Squadrons in the Washington Wing have received a directive from the Wing Commander concerning prospective members participating in Squadron activities.  The directive is very clear that non-members are NOT allowed to take part in any activity that carries any risk of injury.  Here is the message from Col Lehman:

It is critical that potential CAP members do NOT participate in CAP activities until they are members.  They are guests,  and may observe activities, but MUST not participate.  I understand that Squadrons will have potential members, especially cadets, attend three meetings prior to joining CAP.  During these meetings, and subsequent meetings, the guest MUST NOT participate in activities.  This restriction ends when they are shown in eServices as a member.  At this point you should print a temporary ID card.  The key is to complete the membership paperwork and send it off to National in a timely manner.   This is a liability and insurance issue and must be complied with, NO exceptions.

We will do our best to make our guests feel welcome at meetings but we must comply with this directive from the Wing Commander.

Our Squadron Color Guard did an outstanding job during the Mariner's pre-game ceremony yesterday at Safeco Field in front of 28,600 fans.  There are a few pictures on our Facebook page already and we will get more posted soon.

We are working on new opportunities for our Color Guard and hope to see more Cadets start training with the team.

Our Squadron has purchased uniform items which are available for purchase by members at our regular meetings.

BDU Flat Top Hat    $10    new, most sizes, CAP issue
CAP uniform Belt    $15     one size fits all
Cap uniform Tie      $10     only required for Cadet Staff and Color Guard
BDU Pants              Free    Should fit most Cadets, limited supply, new and used.

Our new T-Shirts arrived today and will be available for purchase at Squadron meetings.  The shirts are black with our Squadron Crest on the front and 'OVERLAKE SQUADRON' on the back and are intended for wear with the Battle Dress Uniform - BDU.

There are a wide range of sizes available from youth medium to adult x-large.  $10 each.

Additional training spots have opened up for FLM training on Sunday 23 May and Saturday 19 June for members who are registered to attend the Arlington Fly In.

If you want to attend please email your name, CAPID, and contact information to

To participate in FLM training you must have completed your GES - General Emergency Services training and have FLM trainee status noted on your 101 Card.  Please ask for help if you need it.

The members of VFW Post 2995 will be collecting personal comfort items this coming weekend to ship to our troops serving overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan.  This is NOT an official CAP event but members are encouraged to consider supporting this project.

There will be a signup sheet at our meeting on Tuesday.

Near the mid point of our meetings we will be having a 10 minute break from scheduled activities to allow Cadets time to use the restroom, drink water, and complete any necessary administrative tasks.  This is the time to purchase T-shirts and uniform supplies, retrieve your personnel file for maintenance, and get encampment forms signed.

Cadets should get in the habit of looking through their personnel file on a regular basis.  You are responsible to the contents and condition of your own file.

Thank you for being an important part of the Overlake Composite Squadron.
