GLIDER 'O' FLIGHTS;

On Sunday November 29th Cadets Jake and Sawyer Sjolin each took their first flight in the CAP Glider from the Chehalis airport, congratulations.  Flights will resume in February.

WINTER BASIC ENCAMPMENT;

There are sixty (60) new Cadets attending, half from WA and half from OR.  Also 20 Senior Staff and 20 Cadet Staff, again half from each Wing.  Cadets Shane Wilhelm and Bradley Sevener are representing Overlake Squadron.

SCHOOL RECRUITMENT;

Today I was joined by MSgt Cam Osborn and TSgt Kelly Walls at Kirkland Junior High where we gave two presentations over the lunch period to over 500 students.  Nearly 50 CAP recruiting brochures were taken home by the students.

SCOUTS OPEN HOUSE;

Our Open House dates with the Scouts and Venture Crew are set for the 2nd and 3rd Tuesdays in January.  We plan to expose them to the Cadet experience by doing some drill, light PT, and some ES classes.  I am looking for a couple of Cadets to teach a class on the history of the Civil Air Patrol - 10 to 15 minutes.  The Scout's Newsletter is attached.

UNIFORMS;

If you are a new member and need uniform parts we are planning a 'McChord Run' on Saturday 19 DEC.  We will depart at 0900 and return about 1300.  First Sergeant Osborn is POC.

VA HOSPITAL;

Thank you to everyone who took the time to attend this event.  Not only did the patients appreciate your company but your actions were mentioned at the Wing meeting last Saturday.  You made Overlake look very good, thank you again.

PROMOTIONS;

C/Amn Max Wienke
C/A1C Jakob Sjolin
C/SrA Erika Congdon

Congratulations on your promotions.

AWARDS;

C/MSgt Mitchell Holliday   -   Community Service Ribbon

If you have completed 60 hours of community service outside of our regular meetings, bring me a note outlining the details and I will assist you in completing form 2a for the decoration.

ORM, OPSEC, & EO;

Effective 01 JAN 2010 completion of Basic Operational Risk Management (ORM), Operational Security Awareness Training (OPSEC), and Equal Opportunity Training (EO), will be required for promotion above the rank of Cadet Airman.  Please take a few minutes to complete this important training.  Here are the direct links:

We made good progress on the EO training last week and now are 60% complete.  I will be sending out a list of members who are missing this training next week.

CAP NATIONAL CADET ACTIVITIES;

The National Encampments have now been listed online for your consideration.  Some of the details are still being worked out but this is a good time to see if something interests you.  The competition for these national spots is very tough.   www.ncsas.com

I will be away working next week but your Deputy Commanders will be there to make sure everything runs smoothly.

Best regards,

MICHAEL B HOLLIDAY, 1st Lt, CAP
Commander
