Greetings Overlake Squadron,

COLOR GUARD;

Several Cadets have expressed an interest in joining the Color Guard.  Please contact C/Capt Mason for more information.  We have decided to enter the Wing Color Guard Competition scheduled for 27/28 FEB 2010.  After we win that, we go to regional and then national competitions. It would be great to add another plaque to our wall!

WINTER ENCAMPMENT;

If you plan on attending you have just a few days left to send in your application - due (30 NOV).       http://orwg.uscap.us/Cadet/Encampment/2009/2009%20Encampment%20application.htm

BASE RADIO STATION;

Work continues on setting up our VHF base radio so we can participate in the state-wide communications net which occurs every Tuesday evening.  Our current radio needs to be programmed with the new CAP frequencies, expect to be operational early in the new year.

There is CAP Basic Communications User Training (BCUT) planned at the Western Training Academy (WTA) on 23/24 JAN 2010. This is required training for many emergency services specialties.

DECEMBER MEETINGS;

We will take a break over the Christmas Holidays and not have a meeting on December 29th.  The Staff is currently discussing plans for our December 22 meeting so stay tuned for more details.

FEEDBACK REQUESTED;

We would like to provide the Cadets with a ten (10) minute social / rest break in the middle of our meeting.  In order to fit this into our busy schedule a proposal has been made to move our meeting start time forward to 1845 and still try to finish on time at 2100.  Please send your comments:   mikeholliday1@mac.com

CADET BLOG;

Check out the Cadet Blog on the national web site for the latest in Cadet news.      http://www.capmembers.com/cadet_programs/

STRIPES TO DIAMONDS;

This is a great resource for new Cadets.  Lots of good information on how to make the most of your experience in CAP.     http://www.capmembers.com/cadet_programs/stripes_to_diamonds/

DUTY ASSIGNMENTS;

Lt Col Eric Gilmour has been appointed as an Assistant Testing Officer

1st Lt Bob Bruner has been appointed as an Assistant Testing Officer.

C/2nd Lt Evan Prior has been appointed as the Squadron Assistant Safety Officer.  He will be conducting the Squadron safety briefing in December.

Thank you for your service.

PROMOTIONS;

C/SSgt Don Carroll
C/Amn Shane Wilhelm
C/Amn Brad Sevener

Congratulations on your promotions.  Due to the number of cadets eligible for promotion we plan to schedule more Board Interviews next week.

EXTREME MAKEOVER;

The plans to renovate our meeting area are on hold for now while the VFW reviews their financial ability to contribute to the project. In the meantime we plan to make some minor enhancements to improve our workspace.

SATURDAY TRAINING;

Our casual 2 hour training meeting went very well last week.  Ten (10) Cadets attended and completed a variety of exams, worked on uniforms, drill, and generally had a fun time.  If there is enough interest we will schedule another date soon.

VETERANS HOSPITAL;

It is time for our annual pilgrimage to the Veterans Hospital - Saturday 05 DEC - to help put up Christmas decorations and visit with the patients.  This is a very rewarding experience and I hope that you will all give consideration to helping out.  Point of Contact is MSgt Mitchell Holliday (425) 591-6391.

PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICER;

Our Squadron is currently recruiting for a Public Affairs Officer (PAO) to handle public relations and media releases.  We are running an advertisement during November through Husky Jobs at the UW and have received 6 resumes.  If anyone knows of a qualified individual who might be interested in this position please contact the undersigned.

VFW TROOP SUPPORT;

Thank you to everyone who turned out to help collect comfort items for our troops serving overseas.  We were so successful that the Fred Meyer store sold out of many of the popular items.  Over 1650 boxes have been shipped overseas so far.

ORM, OPSEC, & EO;

Effective 01 JAN 2010 completion of Basic Operational Risk Management (ORM), Operational Security Awareness Training (OPSEC), and Equal Opportunity Training (EO), will be required for promotion above the rank of Cadet Airman.  Please take a few minutes to complete this important training.  Here are the direct links:
